This blog is dedicated to SA Nature Journaling's Megan Terpend (@megan_terpend), a constant ray of positivity ☀️ and welcome in the Whatsapp chats; and to all other nature journalers who cannot leave their homes. 🏡
Your Home 🐦⬛
Your own garden, even if viewed through a window, lends itself to seasons, visitors in the form of birds and stages of growth of what is planted there.

The Local Library 📖
Your local library remains a faithful source of books to savour and explore.

FaceBook 👩💻
The Nature Journal Club on Facebook (started by John Muir Laws) is a very popular platform to find inspiration, learn from other journalers or submit your own work.

From my personal Instagram:
YouTube 📹
If you search "nature journaling" you will be inundated with choices. Some personal recommendations would be:
John Muir Laws has an amazing channel where he and his guests discuss, demonstrate and guide viewers in their nature journaling journey.
Journaling with Nature Podcast, see the podcast with Clare Walker Leslie about keeping a nature journal.
Sketch Book Skool - Danny Gregory creates videos to encourage your creativity as well as your personal drawing abilities, his byline is "I help you make art again".
Blogs or Newsletters 💻
Podcasts 🎙️
Australian Bethan Burton runs the Journaling with Nature podcast and even has an episode called From the Window where she chats about one sees through ones window.
South African Cape Nature just started a podcast, there is only one episode at the moment but let's keep an eye on it.
Live WebCams 🎥
Online cameras can be found at the following places:
Allen Birdcam on YouTube is situated in a Pretoria, Tshwane suburban garden where you can view more than 50 bird species, bats, genets and bushbabies.
There is a webcam channel showing various waterholes in Etosha National Park in Namibia
Africam provides live links cameras in Botswana, Kenya, Kruger National Park, Namibia and more.
The South African National Parks provides stills from webcams in Addo Elephant Park, Boulders Beach, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, and the following parks in Kruger National Park: Olifants, Orpen, Punda Maria and Satara.
Table Mountain has a webcam on top of it, on days when there is no cloud coverage the view is brilliant.
🌱 Did you know using emojis is not unheard of during nature journaling? Using them to show one's emotional state during a session is a way of recording another piece of information into your nature journal. 😊
🌴 What other resources can you recommend for home-bound nature journalers?
